Natural Beauty: Coconut Oil

coconut photoshop.png png.png

Recently i discovered my love for natural and organic oil’s again such as Argan and Moroccan oil, however I have never tried and tested coconut oil, seeing as there was such a HUGEEE hype on the product in the blogging world.

If someone were to tell me years ago that there was one single product that could contribute to my health and beauty regime, I would of never believed them. After discovering this little gem, my mind is completely changed. Coconut Oil is simply one of the best multi purpose organic natural products available.

Coconut Oil is an amazing hair mask. It leaves your hair with a silky texture feeling and lots of shine. I run this through my hair in a similar way of any normal store bought hair mask, just before I got to sleep, let it do it’s magic over night and wash it out in the morning once out the shower you’ll discover your best hair day yet.

It is one of the healthiest oil’s you could use when cooking and it can also be used as a baking ingredient as it is a saturated fat it can be used in place of butter.

Coconut oil is one of the best moisturisers I have ever used! It can be so much more effective than any average store bought lotions, the oil penetrates deep layers of the skin and actually helps strength under-layering tissues, it also helps remove any dead skin cells. It is a great face moisturiser, I like to use it to also remove my makeup at the end of the night, as the oil helps breakdown any makeup from water proof mascara to liquid lipstick. I just lather the oil between my fingers and working and massaging it into the skin until all the makeup looks like it is about to melt off my face then remove the excess with a damp muslin cloth.

Note: I dont reccommned heating the coconut oil in the microwave as it damages vital health properties within the product.

My Top 5 Bronzers Under £10

P1000787

P1000788

 MUA Mosaic Bronzer – £2.50

Bourjois Delice de Poudre in 52 – £7.99

Bourjois Bronzing Primer – £9.99

L’oreal Glam Bronze in 06 – £7.99

Sleek Contour Kit in Light – £6.49

It’s no secret that I am completely addicted to bronzer and having bronzed skin, considering I’ve only had my blog for two months and this has been my second blog post all about bronzer skin. Bronzing is a step in my everyday makeup routine, I find that using bronzer really does sculpt and give a little more colour to my face especially those early mornings were I’m half zombie, half human, bronzer is then my best friend.

They are a lot of bronzers too choose from in the makeup industry but I’m going to share with you my top 5 favourite affordable ones. Let’s be honest affordable drugstore bronzers are just as good or sometimes better as high end bronzers.

MUA Mosaic bronzer is on the very cheap affordable end of the 5 as it comes in at £2.50 only, yet one of the most stunning bronzers! As it is more than a bronzer, it has a blush colour and quite a lot of shimmer for it to be a highlighter as well all in one. MUA did a very good job making this little cute product, as the colour pay off is insane and it compliments my cheek bones very well. Cheap and cheerful.

Bourjois Powder is no stranger to my makeup collection, this one in particular as I’ve had it for 3 years now and it has still not developed a proper dent in the product! AMAZING! The bronzer itself is very warm and rich which gives tanned skin a gorgeous glow, and at the price that it is for it to last that long is also pretty amazing, people say it smells like chocolate I would say more vanilla for me, I think it might just be my smelling sense.

The Bourjois bronzing primer is very similar to the powder but in a mouse consistency which is perfect then for contour under foundation as your skin then looks sun kissed, almost as if you just came back from holiday, and who would not want that sun kissed holiday look? It is quite expensive coming at £10 for a drugstore product but you really only need a tiny bit of this as it is very pigmented. Personally I think it is almost a dupe for the Chanel Soeil Tan De Chanel, I’ve even heard people say the Bourjois one is better but don’t tell Chanel that.

L’oreal Glam bronzer is a new one to grace my collection, and honestly I cannot say I regret buying this! I have seen so many reviews that I had to see what the hype was about. Now I understand. The bronzer has slight flexes of gold running through it which look gorgeous with a smokey eye. Also the bronzer it self is very pigmented! I looove it and would say it can be used for contouring with a really light hand that is because of how strong the colour is. The packaging is super sophisticated and sleek also it comes with a little compact mirror underneath and a contour brush for on the go touch ups. Perfect!

Last but not least the Sleep Contour Kit, this is a product I cannot live without, this has to be my third purchase of this product because how much I use it and then it ends up running out fast! But I use a lot of this product because it’s the perfect contour shade, completely matte no shimmer what so ever. It comes in 3 different shades to suit a variety of skin tones, and the rich warm pigmentation of the product also gives a bronzy sculpted glow to the face. The bronzer is a duo which comes with a highlighter which I’m honestly not a massive fan of because it is so shimmery but it works if you literally tap the brush into the highlighter, it will work perfect with the contour shade then.

I hope you liked this review and took something back from it or even learned something about any of these bronzers.

What’s your favourite bronzer? Desperate to know so I can build on my collection.

Beauty Essentials For School

I think I might be late on the Back To School wagon, as here in Scotland people went back to school last week, well my sister did anyways.

As a new fresh leaver for school I wanted to share with you what I would usually take to school with me beauty essential wise and things to help you during your school day.

Most of the products that I am going to show you are affordable Drugstore makeup, because when I was in school I only used my makeup from Boots and kept my Mac makeup for special occasions, plus I would always keep my makeup natural for school, because I was lazy and wanted more time in bed in the morning.

P1000764 P1000771 P1000772

I would first take deodorant this one is a vaseline one which is my favourite as it smells amazing, I noticed that I seem to be quite picky with my deodorants, also a little bottle of either perfume or body spray I have this little one, which i believe it is Britney Spears perfume but don’t judge me haha! It smells amazing trust me :). I would take a little bottle as you don’t want it to take up too much space, plus if you have P.E that day perfume and body spray can come in handy!

When it was a hot day especially I would always take a packet of either makeup wipes or Wet Ones wipes, because when you have a full face of makeup on in school and you’re absolutely boiling, you just feel like you need to take it all off and feel a bit more fresh! Using a makeup wipe will help ensure this as it cleanses your face instantly and you’ll feel more cool down.

I would take a hand sanitiser for you know keeping clean and everything, kind of self explanatory. The one I have here is from Bath and body works I believe, which my friend picked up for me in Florida.

I would always either taken a lip balm or a lipgloss to school or sometimes both. Two cheap options from the Drugstore, simple vaseline, and I have a cheap lipgloss from Barry M my favourite drugstore lipgloss as well as it’s the perfect nude colour.

Also a miniature mascara, won’t do any damage, as mascara’s tend to have quite chunky packaging, the only miniature one I had in collection was this Clinique one, which happens to be my all time favourite high end mascara.

A power is the most essential beauty product for me in school, as my T zone tends to get quite oily throughout the day, so a little touch up with powder is always good. This one I have hear is a beauty bloggers favourite and it’s the Rimmel Stay Matte. Very cheap and very good. Concealer is always a good choice to bring personally for me it is, because I have quite ugly dark circles which need covered up with ALOT of concealing. I have this one from Seventeen which is really cheap coming at £2.99 I think plus it has a lot of product in the tube!

I always took two different types of makeup brushes to school one small one for my concealer and one bigger one to apply my powder.

Last but not least is a mirror so that you can actually see what your applying.

Thanks for reading, Much Love

Top 5 Eyeshadow Palettes

P1000745 P1000748

Urban Decay Naked Basics

Urban Decay Naked 1

Urban Decay Naked 3

BH Cosmetics Forever Nude Palette

4 U 2 I-Pro Professional Eye Make-up Palette in Modern which I picked up in Dubai

Its no secret that when it comes to eyeshadow, I am an absolute neutrals girl and that will probably never change.

Above are my top five favourite (it was hard to narrow it down to just five).

As you can see I’m a massive Urban Decay fan when it comes to eyeshadows, I have 3 other more prior to the 3 in this picture but I would say they are more vibrant colour ones, if you want too see a blog post on them let me know in the comments.

Urban Decay never fails when it comes to eyeshadow. Each and every eyeshadow is very pigmented and non powdery at all, can’t go wrong? The naked 1 is my all time favourite palette to ever exists I have not found one that can replace it yet, but do you blame me? I mean look at it! It’s gorgeous. It consists of neutrals with golds that would suit a brown eye perfectly! Hence my love for it. The Naked Basics was kindly giving to me at my 17th birthday from one of my best friends, I honestly love this for travelling it is the most perfect palette. It is very compact and lightweight. Plus the neutral colours are amazing for everyday easy looks. The Naked 3 palette is a new one to my collection, I don’t love it as much as the Naked 1 but its pretty up there in terms of colour and quality, as it consists of beautiful rose gold colours that I would of never seen anyone else come up with! very unique urban decay! I tend to use the naked 3 palette if Plus you can’t go wrong with a free amazing brush with both naked 1 and 3 and title mini primer potions which is also my fave eye primer.

The next is one which has everything you need in one palette it is a life saver and it’s my BH cosmetics Forever Nude palette! It comes with 6 neutral shadows, 2 lip options, a highlighter and 2 blushes! AMAZING! I only payed £16 for this on ebay, abouslte bargain if you ask me! Amazing quality and for that price you can’t go wrong.

My last all time favourite is a new one in my collection, I use this a lot when I want to go for a smoked out eye look with a gold shimmer, perfect for a night out! These shadows are highly pigmented and you’ll be amazed at the price only £13!! Thats £1.60 per shadow! Insane I know, what an economical purchase this was. Plus golds and browns are my favourite shades of eyeshadows, just saying.

Go To Bronzed Makeup Look

P1000758

P1000760

P1000761

L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation / Golden Beige

Bourjois Paris Bronzing Primer

Bare Minerals Loose Bronzing Powder / Warmth

MUA Blusher / Bon Bon

Seventeen Skin Wow 3 way Highlighter

Mac Eyeshadow / Espresso

Model. Co Kohl Pencil / Black 01

MUA Undressed Eyeshadow Palette

Clinique High Impact Mascara / 01 Black

I have to say bronzing and contouring is my favourite part of doing my makeup. It gives so much dimension and shape to the face you wouldn’t believe. Recently I picked up the Bare Minerals Loose Powder I absolutely love it but it’s enough to help me achieve the bronzed look I’m going for in my opinion.

To achieve this look I would first use my foundation which is this L’oreal one and can I say it is outstanding. Because of my oily skin I can never find a foundation that controls this however True Match does the job. It is almost a matte finish yet still dewy making the skin still look like skin which I love. Its perfect for covering harsh blemishes and redness. Plus I don’t need to use a powder when I have this on and honestly I hardly need to touch up with powered during a long day.

After that I would use the Bourjois primer on top to give a sculpted look to my cheeks and nose, it recommends to use this under foundation but I prefer it on top if I’m honest as it’s more visible then I would use the Bare Minerals powered as that gives a more bronzy look than contoured but it is gorgeous either way!

To finish off the face makeup I used my MUA blush in Bon Bon which just gives a natural pinky healthy glow, and the Seventeen Highlighter which brings a lot more dewiness back into the skin! Giving it the healthy bronzy glow that I’m tried to achieve.

For eyebrows I used my Mac eyeshadow and angled brush to quickly fill them in how I normally would do, but also I used this colour through the crease of my eye as its the perfect medium brown colour. I then used the lightest shade from my MUA palette to pack on the colour on the rest of my eyelid, this creates a simplistic eye look as I wanted the focus to be on the face makeup.

I didn’t want to go too fancy by using a gel liner as the focus draws to the eyes then, instead I took a easy smudge-able kohl pencil and ran that along the bottom and top lashes to give a grungy smokey look whilst looking simple at the same time, this one from Model. Co is perfect for that as it is very creamy and intensely black. Finally for mascara I had to use my go to favourite mascara, and that of course is the Clinique High Impact mascara, as it adds volume and drama without being clumpy or without having spidery looking lashes, what more could you ask for in a mascara?

Hope you enjoyed reading.

Top 5 Mac Lipsticks

P1000731

Flat Out Fabulous in Retro Matte Finish

Captive in Satin Finish

Lady Danger in Matte Finish

Plink! in Lustre Finish

HoneyLove in Matte Finish

I’ve always been one to keep it safe with lip colour, sticking to neutrals and nudes. Recently I’ve branched out and went out my comfort zone a little bit by trying lipsticks with a bit more colour and ill tell you I do not regret that decision one bit!

The above 5 are just a few of my favourites.

First we have the two purple toned lipsticks. Purple is one of those lipsticks where I would of never tried or even thought of to put on my lips. My sister picked up Captive and I used it once then fell instantly in love, it is the perfect dark plumy colour for my skin tone. It makes my skin look flawless (it’s a miracle I know). This is definitely one of my all time favourite lipsticks for autumn/winter time.

Now we have Flat Out Fabulous, since I had an obsession with Captive I wanted another purpley colour to try with a tiny bit of difference, Flat Out Fabulous is actually a lot more different to Captive even though they look the same in the picture (whoops). Flat Out Fabulous is very matte and is a pure purple colour where as Captive has a sheen and makes the lips look more glossy and plumpy.

Then we come to Lady Danger which is a true red with an orange undertone, this is one is also a favourite of my mums’ as she’s got paler skin to me and it looks amazing on her! Very brightening and perfect shade for spring/summer, you really can’t complain with Mac’s red lipsticks as they never fail to impress.

Lastly we have my two favourite ever nudes which are Plink! (top right hand corner) and HoneyLove (bottom right). Both suit my skin tone amazingly and with an extra bit of Barry  M Toffee Lipgloss on top then I am sold! Definitely my favourite combo. Plink! is  a very sheer light lipstick that looks as though it is meant to refreshen the lips and give that shiny glow that you want in summer. HoneyLove is a perfect nude for the night time with a gloss over it, your lips will look juicy and gorgeous! Unexpectedly the matte finish of the lipstick is not drying at all. Highly recommend if anyone is looking for a nude.

July Favourites

P1000714I actually have not been loving many new products this month, and I noticed most of my beauty favourites have been things that I’ve had for a while but rediscovered and now loving even more than when I first bought them!

Beauty:

1) I wouldn’t say I’m a massive fan of pink shimmery colours on the lips, but velvetgh0st from Youtube sold me on this one! It’s Mac Lustre Lipstick in the shade Plink! It is a perfect moisture full lipstick that gives a lovely light sheen to the lips and I love it that is it.

2) I had this in my skincare collection for a while now but not used it yet because it was a weird one until about two months ago I thought I would try it and I am loving it! I use it in the morning when I apply moisturising and I do the same at night and it totally helps my eye bags stay at bay! Perfect little product.

3) I haven’t been one to branch out to loose or mineral products but my mum has had this Bare Minerals powered bronzer for a while but never tried it because it was too dark for her. Being the bronzer/contour fanatic that I am I had to try it, and can I say I’m in love, it is so light on the skin and natural looking yet perfect for tanned skin and gives that contour sculpted cheeks affect! My go to bronzer right now.

4) Honestly I was getting sick of applying my face makeup with a brush because I would always find that every brush would make my foundation streaky, maybe it was just the way I applied it who knows *laughs at self* but my sister gave me one of her DUPE’S for the real beauty blender and can I just say again.. that I am in love! It makes my skin look airbrushed and flawless and makes the foundation go on so seamless even though it is a dupe you could never tell because it works wonders!

5) So many people have raved about this so I had to get a sample and try it out instead of buying it full price. It is the Clinque High Impact Mascara and the BEST mascara I have ever tried. It gives volume x100 whilst lengthening the lashes! My all time favourite mascara.

6) And going back to basics… see what I done there;). I re-discorved my love for the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette and I love it for everyday use as it is so compact and perfect for everyday looks.

Music

I have been loving Ed Sheeran’s new album which is just outstandingly amazing and probably his best yet! Expected from him

Thanks for reading, let me know in the comments what you have been loving from the month of July?

How I Deep Clean My Makeup Brushes

P1000681P1000679 I can’t be the only one who hates washing their makeup brushes?! But it is a must unless you want bacteria full, grubby makeup brushes. Also I can’t be the only one to hate using different products and spending so much money on a brush cleaner when frankly you can get one just as good half the price. For example I use the Johnson’s Baby Shampoo and it does my brushes wonders!!

It leaves them super soft, fluffy and does not dry out the bristles. It removes all the dirt and bacteria build up without damaging the brushes. It is a perfect way of cleaning your brushes especially if you are on a budget. I do like using my Mac brush cleanser for spot cleaning if I want a brush right there and then but it doesn’t deep clean them how I know you should be doing one a week at least.

1. Lay the grubby brushes out.

2. Get the bristles a bit damp with warm water making sure to keep the bristles pointed down the whole time.

3. Squeeze a tiny bit of the product onto your palm and rub the brush thoroughly in the palm of your hand getting rid of the dirt making sure to rinse with the warm water at the same time.

4. Give the brushes one sat squeeze as you don’t want soap in your brushes.

5. Lay them out flat of the bristles facing down to dry. I would usually wait over night until they are completely dry depending on how dense the brush it.

My camera died and I couldn’t find the battery charger so I wasn’t able to get an after picture of the brushes but just believe me when I say they turned out super soft and clean

Hope you enjoyed reading.

Give me suggestions on what other products I could use to clean my brushes?

Home Made Face and Body Exfoliator

P1000687

I’ve noticed this past week that my skin is getting quite bad with break outs and also I realised that my skin all over my body was starting to become really dry especially in this hot weather and as much as I moisturise the dryness just never stays at bay 😦

My sister and I came up with this home made exfoliator which only requires 4 ingredients which are most likely to already be in the convenience of your own home, so you don’t need to worry about running to the shops to make this.

We came up with a honey, lemon, sugar, and oil exfoliator. It is similar to the lush lip scrubs but this can be used all over your body, face and lips, also you do not need to pay £5 for a tiny tub. This amount of ingredients we use is enough to cover your body.

You will need:

1 table spoon of Honey

Quarter cup of Sugar

Half table spoon of olive oil or jojoba oil

and 3-5 drops of Juice out of a freshly squeezed lemon (not necessary)

Just add everything into a bowl and give it a mix. It should create a paste like consistency with the little bits of sugar still visible.

I would just hop into the shower or bath exfoliate with this and honestly it the best thing I have ever tried it leaves my skin super super soft and hydrated! I probably won’t ever waste money on exfoliators as this does the job for me 10x better. The oil hydrates and brings all of that moisture back into the skin, whilst the sugar exfoliates taking the dead skin cells away and the honey provides powerful healing enzymes which will help regain clearer, more polished and beautiful skin. I let one of my friends try this out, she said it made her fake tan go on smoothly and said her legs felt like silk.

This only issue I would say with using this is not to over scrub your body and especially face or try not to scrub too hard as it can leave you with redness and irritation. So be careful and a light hand will go a long way.

Who’s willing to try putting food on your face? Let me know in the comments if you tried it and how it made your skin feel and look?

Thanks for reading everyone.

Let me know in the comments if you tried this out or not 🙂

Night Time Skincare Routine

P1000637For someone who wears as much makeup as I do, I’ve never been into skincare, purely because I’m lazy, but I do know how important it is to maintain healthy skin. I searched about the stores high-end and drugstore, but everything seem so complicated and time consuming to me, I slowly started to gather a bunch of products together that I know I loved also ones that my skin would actually benefit from. Plus I wanted my skincare routine to be fun and not turn it into a chore and something I wanted to do not something that I knew I had to do.

I narrowed my routine down to using these 6 products, I know it sounds a lot but I don’t use every single one of them everyday I would change it up between the 6.

I’m one to wear really heavy eye makeup on a daily basis and JUST cleansers never work for me. So I do use wipes *slaps wrist* but they do the job and work perfectly fine for me for taking my makeup off roughly. Once i’m finished that I would then use the Biore Balancing Cleanser because that stuff is amazing for removing all of your face makeup and leaving your skin super soft and clean. Plus its only £2.69 in T.j Hughes, can’t go wrong.

If i’m having a bad skin day and I have a lot of pores then I would use a easy face scrub that would instantly help banish pores, so I went for the Garnier Pure Active anti-blackhead deep pore wash, as it does the job and really does help to eliminate pores around the nose especially quickly.

Once I’ve finished cleaning my whole face from that days makeup I would want to bring the moisture back into my skin and feel more refreshed in these hot clammy nights I want something to sooth and cool my face, that’s when my Lush Eau Roma Toner Water comes in, all I do is spritz that on my face a few times, wait for it to dry as it leaves the skin smelling and feeling, amazingly fresh. After that I apply my Simple Revitalising Roll-on, which is a gel for under eyes to help puffiness and hydrate that part of the skin. It really does work I’ve seen such a difference since adding this into my skincare routine.

Last but not least I always moisturise before bed as that helps heal all my skin while I’m sleeping also it brings all the moisture back. I love this one from Simple as its very hydrating but light at the same time also it has SPF 15 which is useful for during the day.

Whats your favourite skincare picks?

Hope you enjoyed reading.

Much Love Meru x
